"...Use Diversity to Empower Yourself..."

During my most recent business trip to Atlanta, a couple of months ago, I was invited by Mr Von Nkosi of ILI / Liquid Studios, to connect with fellow entrepreneur, Mr Gareth J Young, both of whom are successful businessmen, spiritual leaders, fathers and authors.

Gareth transformed his own life from a traditional corporate career and family life to an integrated life of independent business livelihood. He gained richer personal relationships, and deeper community involvement, all filled with a sense of meaning and purpose. It’s a journey informed by his own experiences and by those of his fellow travellers [myself included] to a way of being that will bring a new sense of fulfilment and happiness to your life.

Along with his esteemed colleague, Todd Schnick, we had a 'probing and personal' conversation that included the following narrative:

"........On this week’s #NewBusinessMindset, Bola Abisogun talked to us about how growing up in Hackney, one of London’s most deprived boroughs, affected the trajectory of his life, including both the founding of a highly a successful real estate development and construction-related business, amidst the major social and economic contributions he has made to the community in which he was raised....."

Lessons from the Show

Bola offered us many wonderful lessons that point us towards an authentic, happy and fulfilling life and career including:

  • Lead by example and base your life on the philosophy, “Do what I do, not what I say”;

  • Redefine what “normal” means to you, and in doing so examine your conscious and subconscious biases, and reroute and redefine them;

  • Use difference as a basis for empowerment, and intentionally empower yourself.
