Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II visits Parliament Square during #RICS150

November 20, 2018

Today, The Queen visited the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in London to mark the organisation’s 150th anniversary.

In 1881 the institution received a Royal Charter as The Surveyors' Institution from Queen Victoria, before becoming the Chartered Surveyors’ Institution in 1930. In 1946, George VI granted the title ‘Royal’ and in 1947 the professional body became the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Modern surveyors have and continue to play a leading role in developing the city of London. Key projects include the development of the London 2012 Olympic site, tunnelling for Crossrail beneath the capital and the planning of the High Speed 2 railway.

Her Majesty also met representatives of the organisation’s charitable work, trainees, students and diversity champions of the RICS.

The Queen locked a letter box shaped time capsule which will be reopened on the Institution’s 200th anniversary on 2068.

As Patron of the organisation, Her Majesty took the time to extend a personal message to all who awaited her youthful and warm presence................including Kimberly Hepburn AssocRICS, one of our younger, up and coming trailblazers.

The 150th celebration was an incredible, international affair, with many established dignitaries and 'Past Presidents' in attendance; including Dr See Lian Ong FRICS, PP and Chairman of the ICMS Committee

Finally, a Lego model replica of the letter box time capsule was also given to Her Majesty who concluded her visit by signing the official visitors book...............

Which was then proffered to selected guests to endorse their moniker and ensure that their 'status and contribution' remains enshrined in RICS history....
