Never before has the role of the Surveyor been met with such a plethora of challenges, be it the sustainability of the profession itself or the ever increasingly demanding and multi-faceted role that Surveyors will play in the climate change challenge.

The Executive Team at London South Bank University [LSBU] have always maintained and stepped upto the challenge and to that end have further set the bar 'higher' for themselves. In July 2022, the leadership team led by Professor George Agyekum-Mensah, along with Secretariat support from Amna Ayub, hosted an inaugural meeting of the IAB [Industry Advisory Board], which essentially is a group of industry leaders, with a common goal; to commence with the challenge that LSBU have set themselves and both establish and deliver upon a number of measurable outputs.

The purpose and scope of the IAB extends across Construction, Property & Surveying [CPS] and its role, as a group of practising built environment professionals, is to meet with [and positively challenge and support] leading academics at LSBU.

The principal aim is to provide a steer [by industry] and potentially disrupt the school’s programmes and other activities of the School(s) to ensure that they are fit for purpose and sustainable, whilst meeting the current and future needs of industry and, [critically], future proof the needs of the students themselves.

After a healthy conversation and notable contributions from LSBU faculty and industry leaders, the IAB, under the direction of Prof Agyekum-Mensah proceeded to vote the incumbent leadership into position(s) as listed below.
Chairman: Bola Abisogun OBE FRICS
Vice-Chair: Adam Newell
2nd Vice Chair: Tim Finch

With a focus on developing industry partnerships, improving student experience, capacity and performance, stress-testing course content [via industry validation] and developing ‘leading edge’ research and wider cross sector collaboration, the IAB definitely has its work cut out....!!

As the newly appointed Chairman, Bola Abisogun OBE wants to assure every ‘current and future’ student member and member of faculty, that on behalf of the new IAB, we will undertake to do all that is humanly possibly to deliver upon our new mandate.
